Introduction to Glass Fusing 2 with Renee Farr

Prerequisite: Introduction to Glass Fusing 1 with Renee Farr or have the following experience:
- Cutting glass
- Assembling the pieces of a glass fusing project
- The process of the first kiln firing
- Kiln temperatures
- The process of slumping
- The viscosity of the glass
- Bubble control
- Color reactions

Building on the foundation you learned in Beginner I, this class explores additional techniques that may include strip construction, bas relief and powdered glass techniques.

Students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies as they are not included in the class fees. Supplies are available for purchase at the Cape Coral Art Center Supply Store located in building 2 open Monday thru Saturday 9:00am thru 4:00pm. Current students receive a 10% discount. Drop-In studio times are offered at a nominal fee for students enrolled in the current class session. Dates, times, and costs are posted in the glass studio after the first week of class in each session.

Supply List:
- Glass cutter
- Groziers
- Running Pliers
- Thin Fire Shelf Paper
- Fusible Glass
- N95 mask (when working with powdered glass)

Additional items will depend on which skills are being taught during that session but in all cases, advanced notice will be given to the art studio to ensure that we have the correct materials on hand for student purchase.



Class Outline
Week 1 – Strip construction – design your piece, cut your glass and begin assembly
Week 2 – Finish strip construction and get them into the kiln for firing. Begin working on Bas Relief design
Week 3 – Finish Bas Relief project and fire, slump Strip construction pieces if desired
Week 4 – Powdered glass project design or drop vase and fire at end of class (first firing for drop vases)
Week 5 – Drop vase 2nd firing and/or edge finishing the strip construction pieces

The Art Center wants you to learn while having fun and staying safe! Please wear closed toed shoes and keep a pair of safety glasses and respirator handy.
